The holiday season is here and the region is buzzing with anticipation over some exciting holiday events on Cape Cod coming up. One of my favorites is the the annual Nantucket Christmas Stroll.
Now in its 40th year… the Nantucket Christmas Stroll is a spirited holiday tradition that lights up the quaint Cape Cod island of Nantucket on December 6-8, 2013.
Now one of the original Christmas Strolls, Nantucket’s was started in 1973 as a way to encourage locals to do their holiday shopping on the island of Nantucket as a way to stimulate the local economy. Back in the ’70s, the event was known as the ‘Nantucket Shoppers Stroll.’ Stores would remain open late, and shoppers would literally “stroll” from shop to shop, giving people a chance to socialize with friends and, of course, buy their holiday gifts.
Christmas Stroll is now much more than a shopping excursion – it’s a holiday event for young and old!
It begins when Santa and Mrs. Claus arrive to Nantucket via a Coast Guard vessel and parade up Main Street accompanied by the Town Crier. Kids then have the opportunity to meet with Santa and encounter the Magical Talking Tree! Visitors can also see and listen to Victorian carolers, bell ringers, and other musicians on Main Street.
The Nantucket Christmas Stroll is the perfect weekend to get in the holiday spirit and enjoy Cape Cod’s cozy shops and restaurants. Some of the Best Hotels on Cape Cod offer great hotel packages just for the occasion… including Bayside Resort Hotel.
