When you’re planning Cape Cod getaway packages in October – brace yourself for a creepy good time. Especially in the town of Barnstable MA where the ghosts and goblins like to come out and play.
The town offers something really ‘out of the ordinary’ through the month of October that’s sure to please ghost mongers and historians alike. It’s called the Barnstable Village Haunted & History Tour!
Running from October 1 – November 14, 2013– join the walking group for a two-hour romp down the historic and VERY HAUNTED “Old Kings Highway” in Barnstable Village.
A guide will take you through the wonderful history of Reverend John Lothrop… who, in 1645, built his home on Old Kings Highway – and is now the Sturgis Library. This structure is to be the oldest building to be used as a library in the United States.Strangely enough, there is a resident who has not left the historic building… and it is said he still walks the bookshelves and basement.
That is just one building on the tour. The group travels and stops at many locations like the Superior Court House, The Playhouse, The Barnstable Tavern and more. While on the tour you will hear stories of the conflict between the Loyalists and the American Whigs (Patriots) and how England had a stronghold on this small quaint town. There are over ten stops on the tour and eight are actively haunted locations. Y
You will also take a stroll along the headstones in Cobb’s Hill Cemetery where many strange and unusual things have taken place. The last stop on the tour has quite a reputation of being haunted… You will go inside and sit in the darkness of the “Old Jail” built in 1690’s by the order of Massachusetts Bay Colony Courts, and that is very actively haunted.
Tours run in the evenings at 7pm. They are two hours long. Adults are $15, Children ages 12-8.. are $8. Children under 8 are FREE.
