7 Summer Festivals to Include in Your Cape Cod Vacation Plans

No matter what time of year you visit Cape Cod there is always plenty to do. With museums, fine dining, a plethora of tourist attractions, swimming, fishing, whale watching, etc.. there is no shortage of year round activity that will suit pretty much anybody’s vacation desires. To put it mildly, if you can’t find something fun to do on the Cape, you simply aren’t trying.
This is especially true during the summer, when not only are all the great water and beach related activities the Cape has to offer in full swing, but the Cape’s calendar of festivals and events has something to offer nearly every week.
If you are planning a Cape Cod vacation this summer, here are seven cool Cape Cod festivals you will want to include in your vacation plans. If you aren’t planning a Cape Cod vacation this summer, well, what are you waiting on? Start planning now so you don’t miss;
- The Strawberry Festival, June 10th in East Sandwich – The Strawberry Festival celebrates all things strawberry with great desserts an old fashioned jam making demonstration in a circa 1903 kitchen. The wildflower garden and walking trails of the hosting Green Briar Nature center are open throughout the event as well.
- A Celebration of Arts… and All that Jazz, June 24-25 on Bass River – Celebrate the arts with local artists. Festivities include a jazz brunch, an art exhibit and sale, live music and theatrical performances.
- The Fourth of July Parade, July 4 in Chatham – The Fourth of july parade begins in Chatham at 9:30 a.m. And travels down Main street from Shore Road to Veterans’ Field. Celebrate the 4th in one of the most historically rich areas of the country and be sure to catch a local fireworks display in the evening.
- Annual Secret Garden Tour, July 9 in Provincetown – Join Provincetown for the Secret Garden Tour and get a list of ten beautiful gardens tucked away down the communities less traveled roads to visit at your leisure. Parking is reserved for ticket holders.
- Barnstable County Fair, July 21-29 in East Falmouth – Come out to the Barnstable County Fairgrounds and enjoy an old fashioned county fair with all the exhibits, food, crafts, entertainment, and midway fun that makes county fairs such a big event for communities across the U.S.
- Peter Rabbit’s Animal Day, August 9th in Sandwich – Great family fun is sure to be had by all those who make plans to attend Peter Rabbit’s Animal Day at Thornton Burgess Museum. There are live animal exhibits, a pet rabbit show, story time and even a personal appearance by the famed Peter Rabbit himself. Refreshments are available and admission is free.
- Dennis Festival Days, August 31 through September 4 in Dennis – Wrap up the summer vacation season at Dennis festival days and enjoy a weeks worth of fun. Events include a sand sculpture contest, an antique car parade, a 10k road race and a fireworks display.
So start making plans now to catch any one of these, or other, great festivals that are going on throughout the communities of the Cape this, and every, summer.
Like I said, with great events going on all summer long, if you can’t find something fun to do during your Cape Cod vacation this summer, you just aren’t trying.
