JFK and Cape Cod are synonymous.
Kennedy roots dig deep here. After all it was Cape Cod where John F. Kennedy, our 35th President, contemplated and accepted his run for office. He raised children here and built lasting memories inside the famed Kennedy compound in Hyannis Port.
The Kennedy family is truly a treasure to this region – and the JFK Hyannis Museum exquisitely captures the reason why.
Step inside and you will experience a multimedia exhibit designed to give visitors a one-of-a-kind glimpse of what life was like for JFK on Cape Cod; days relaxing with family, days playing football, days spent sailing.
The exhibit features over 80 photographs spanning the years 1934 to 1963 and is arranged in thematic groupings to reflect JFK, his family, his friends and the region he loved. In addition to photography, a video narrated by Walter Cronkite depicts the president’s experiences on the Cape.
The museum also hosts special exhibits like:
- The Kennedy Weddings (’97) – included 22 wedding photographs which span 78 years from the 1914 wedding of Joseph P. Kennedy and Rose Fitzgerald to photographs from the weddings of their children and grandchildren.
- Presidential Golf Memorabilia (’99) - told the story of golf’s impact on the Presidents who enjoyed the game.
- Senator Edward M. Kennedy’s 70th Birthday (’02) - The Senator gave the Museum unprecedented access to family photographs that have previously not been seen outside of family circles. The photographic exhibit spans the years of 1932 to 2002 and provides a fun and often poignant view of one of our neighbors and the youngest child of Rose and Joseph Kennedy.
- Summer of 1960 (’04) - 25 riveting photographs that depicted the last two weeks of July 1960 when a steady procession of the party’s luminaries, movers and shakers – some friends, some temporary allies – arrived at the Kennedy compound.
The JFK museum – a brainchild of the Hyannis Area Chamber of Commerce – is a brilliant Cape Cod attraction for area residents and visitors alike. And you never know who you might see there.
Sen. Kennedy has even been known to pop in from time to time.
Engaging – easily accessible – and fun – The JFK Hyannis Museum is a must see during any Cape Cod vacation.
