After a long day of holiday shopping or winter sledding, folks on Cape Cod are known to indulge in a famed New England past-time: beer drinking.
Yes, New Englanders have enjoyed have enjoyed the heady effects of a good beer since they arrived on the Atlantic shores.

And, Roger Williams authorized a Providence brewery after the dissident cleric was booted from Massachusetts.
While New England is rich in historic lore, so too are the stories surrounding the region’s great pubs.
The Pub Social Scene
New England pubs, especially on Cape Cod, also seem to be as much about socializing as they are about the libations.
Pub proprietors feel it’s important to make their customers feel at home. You won’t find ear-splitting sound systems, just welcoming destinations where a premium is placed on the ability to carry on a conversation and savor the flavor, body, and aroma of a good beer.
Moby Dick Pub
There are two Cape Cod pubs that tend to be favorite among locals and travelers alike.
The first, Moby Dick Pub, is located at Bayside Resort Hotel in West Yarmouth MA.
This is not your typical hotel bar.
Step inside and you’ll find the walls papered with REAL dollar bills!
Legend has it that centuries ago fisherman would tack up a dollar before their trip at sea to ensure they would have money for a drink when they returned.
The tradition is kept alive today – although now it’s more of a novelty than a “savings account.” The pub’s bartenders will induct you into the Ceiling Hall of Fame if you sign a dollar bill. Patrons also like to share some words of wisdom on their bill for future patrons.
The pub is open daily – and this year they’ll be hosting a special New Years Eve Pre-Party with a champagne toast and appetizers.
O’Shea’s Olde Inne
If you’re a more adventurous beer drinker, then the go where the Irish go – O’Shea’s Olde Inne in West Dennis MA.
The casual atmosphere, mixed with good food, good beer, and celtic music will leave you wondering if, in fact, you’ve walked into one of Ireland’s best pub restaurants.
Locals, vacationers and visitors from afar enjoy the opportunity to talk and visit with each other at O’Shea’s.
They are also famous for their Sunday night traditional Irish Session. People come from miles to listen to traditional Irish tunes (jigs and reels), eat wonderful food, and listen to old Celtic tales and poetry.
