When you think of great summer vacation destinations Cape Cod should always be near the top of the list. With some of the best beaches in the country, loads of local history, great wine and food, and an extensive calendar of festivals and events in all the local communities that make up the Cape, the reasons to make Cape Cod your summer vacation destination are impressive.
And, adding to this already impressive list of summer events and activities available on the Cape, starting this summer 2012, your reasons for planning a summer vacation on Cape Cod have grown even more.
Celebrating Summer
This June 21, 2012 is, of course, the first day of summer. Now though, this inaugural day of summer is also the date of the annual Cape Cod Quahog Day.
Cape Cod Quahog Day is a festival held on the Quahog Republic lawn, at the Quahog Republic Eatery on Mashnee Island in Bourne. The festivities get under way with the “Quahog Prognostication” which is an announcement made by the Secretary General of Quahog Republic, as received from the official quahog, as to how many weeks of beach weather the Cape will see this summer.
Quahog Fun
The fun continues with several activities on the lawn that the whole family can enjoy. Events include a clambake preparation ritual, clam shucking demonstrations, live music, children’s activities, and several contests. Attendees will also have the opportunity to compete to become the first ever Ms. Quahog, Boss Hog or Mister and Miss Littleneck.
Entrance to the event is free to the public. Food and drinks will be sold at the restaurant and, for $37/person, you can attend the 6 pm clam bake which includes 1/4 boiled lobster, fresh steamers, linguica sausage, potatoes and corn.
When you add this event to the Father’s Day festivities, including an auto show and Chowder Festival, in downtown Hyannis, June 21st becomes a day of Cape Cod vacation fun you won’t want to miss.

Cape Cod family vacations are great all-year round, but really nothing compares to spending the first day of summer on the Cape. Make plans now by looking into some great hotel deals and affordable vacation packages. Cape Cod Quahog Day is great fun the whole family will enjoy.
