Cape Cod wine vineyards.
They are the single most unexpected Cape Cod attraction – and it’s been that way for years.
Who knew you could grow grapes on Cape Cod?
Better yet – who knew folks were actually making wine on Cape Cod?
They are – and it’s all taking place at two very distinct, ultra-popular vineyards on Cape Cod: Cape Cod Winery & Truro Vineyards of Cape Cod.
Cape Cod Winery
Open for tastings May – December, Cape Cod Winery has been producing sumptuous varieties of wine grapes since 1994. Their vineyard is planted on a perfect site with sandy gravel soil, gentle slopes – both of which are ideal for grape growing and rival even the world-class vineyards of France and Italy. Planted, to date, their grape varieties include Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Pinot Grigio, Seyval and Vidal. The extraordinary wines Cape Cod Winery produces reflects the special character of Cape Cod and can be paired with the finest seafood of our region.
Cape Cod Winery also won a Bronze medal for their Nobska Red wine in the International Eastern Wine Competition. But don’t forget to stop by their gift shop. While their wines are for sale in local liquor stores – they may be hard to come by in other parts of the country.
Truro Vineyards of Cape Cod
Acquired by the Roberts family in March 2007, the vineyard is known for its beautiful setting and outstanding wines. Every summer, thousands of wine lovers tour Truro Vineyards and enjoy both an educational and tasting experience.
You’ll find decadent reds – the Maritime Red is a favorite – and luscious whites, including Vignoles and Sauvignon Blanc.
And I can’t mention Truro Vineyards without a reference to their numerous awards.
Most recently, they were Gold medal winners of the Taster’s Guild International Wine Judging competition. They even won a double Gold in the same competition in 2006!
Their wine is that good!
Truro Vineyard is open April – December.
You don’t have to travel to Europe or to the Pacific West Coast to experience beautiful vineyards and wonderful wine – Cape Cod offers all that, and then some.
One of our favorite things to do on Cape Cod (and most romantic) is to go wine tasting in the afternoon and then head to beach at sunset.
Cape Cod – it’s the perfect destination even for wine lovers! Who knew?
