Exploring Cape Cod’s Maritime History
There are tons of things to do on Cape Cod… including visits to museums that are full of history dating all the way back to the pilgrims. One of these is the Cape Cod Maritime Museum in Hyannis, MA. You’ve never seen an exhibit like this one encompassing five centuries of marine adventures from Nantucket Sound to the waters of the Outer Cape.
Among the exhibits, you’ll find Cape-featured colonial-era mariner’s charts, visions of 19th century fishing and whaling, early 20th century photographs, model ships, and historical relics. The museum also houses the only remains left of the 17th century trans-Atlantic vessel, the Sparrow-Hawk, which wrecked on the outer beach of Cape Cod in 1626.
Cape Cod Maritime Museum succeeds in its mission to preserve maritime heritage by sharing with you what the Cape’s residents have experienced between them and the sea. The museum also holds workshops for all age groups and skill levels on how to tie nautical knots, build models, and painting in the outdoors. This is a great lifelong educational experience that everyone and their families should get to experience; so don’t miss out!
