Consisting of almost 45,000 acres of beaches, sand dunes, marshes, freshwater ponds, and historic sites – the Cape Cod National Seashore is one of those Cape Cod tourist attractions that has something for everyone.
And, if you’re planning a trip to the National Seashore, the Salt Pond Visitors Center is a great place to start.
History And Nature
The center’s museum displays artifacts from the life of whaling captain Edward Penniman – including his journal, tea service and top hat – as well as other displays focusing on things like whaling and scrimshaw.
Once you’ve covered the museum’s interior – head outside and explore the surrounding trails. The center offers ranger-guided walks, or you can just set out on your own.
Other activities offered by the center include:
- Boat trips
- Beach hikes
There is even an outdoor amphitheater that has activities scheduled most evenings throughout the summer.
